I need help with: The Lucky Voice Home website
The new look Lucky Voice Home!
Everything has changed! What's new pussycat?
We've listened to your feedback, had a few ideas of our own and as a result made quite a few changes to Lucky Voice Home - we hope you like them! Highlights include:
- New improved karaoke player - more resilient, easier to use, play tracks instantly, add to the top and bottom of the live playlist
- Easier to use - a clearer navigation structure and layout, faster loading
- Easier to share - send songs and playlists to friends and they can preview songs fullscreen without signing in or signing up.
- Improved playlists - 'love' friends' playlists and leave comments
- More ways to pay - song credits allow you to 'sing as you go' or buy more lengths of 'unlimited singing'
AOL browser users: Please read!
I'm an AOL browser user! Did you call on me?
Unfortunately Lucky Voice Home does not work with AOL's browser. While you might be able to create playlists, you won't be able to launch the karaoke player. You can still get your singing fix, however, by using another browser such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer.
Signing up and signing in
I've forgotten my password. How do I enter, sandman?
On the sign-in page click the Forgotten Password? link. We'll email you a link for you to reset it.
I'm having trouble signing in. Help, I need somebody!
Have you definitely entered the correct email address as well as password? Most people have their browser set to remember the email address, so if it's remembering the incorrect address you won't be able to log in no matter what password you enter.
Alternatively, the security level on your browser might be too high - in Internet Explorer, if you go to Tools >Internet Options > Privacy, ensure that your privacy setting is set to no higher than "medium".
I haven't received my confirmation link! I just don't know what to do with myself.
Sometimes the emails containing confirmation links go to users' junk or spam folders. If it's not there and you don't receive an email within a few hours, click the Not had your activation email? link and resubmit it. We'll send it out to you manually.
Voucher codes, song credits and unlimited singing
I want to give you my money, honey. What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Delta, Electron and Visa debit cards. At this point we don't accept Solo, Switch or Maestro cards, but we hope to in future.
We also accept payments by PayPal.
I've got a voucher code I want to redeem. Where do I go to, my lovely?
To redeem a voucher code, click the "Buy Singing Time" button you see on signing in. On the next page, scroll down and you'll see a box where you can enter your code. Then just click submit and you're ready to sing!
Song credits? Unlimited singing time? I don't understand!
You can buy singing time on Lucky Voice Home in two ways:
Song credits allow pay as you go singing, with no expiry date. So, for example, if you buy 100 song credits that means you can sing 100 songs over as long, or short, a period as you like. A credit is redeemed once a song goes past the first thirty seconds, so if you start a song and change your mind you can skip it without losing one of your credits. Your song credit balance is displayed in the blue counter on the right of the screen.
Subscriptions mean you can sing as many songs as you like over a fixed period. So if you purchase a month of singing, you get a month's access to our full catalogue of thousands of songs with no resrictions.
Searching and playlists
How do I search for a song and add it to a playlist? I want you to show me the way.
We've got thousands of songs just waiting to be added to your playlists. To search for a song, click Search songs on the left-hand side of the screen. Then enter a song or artist name in the search box. You can preview the music/lyrics by clicking the little arrow button next to the song - they will appear in the preview player on the right of the screen.
If you want to look at all the songs by a specific artist, click their name in the search results.
To add a song to your playlist, click the plus icon
and add it to either an existing playlist or a new one. You can also just drag the song to your chosen playlist.
I can't find the song I want. Can I request one? I want it that way.
Yes, you can. Click here and shout, shout, let it all out!
My playlist is called "New Playlist" something-or-other. That's not my name! How do I change it?
Click on the playlist whose name you want to change, and move the cursor over the playlist name as it appears at the top of the list of songs. You'll see the area around the title change colour; this means you can click and edit the playlist title.
I swear, by the moon and the stars in the sky, that someone wrote a naughty comment. How do I report it?
In the comments section you'll see a Report this comment link. Click that to let us know about such bad behaviour.
Friends and sharing
I want to invite someone to the site to thank them for being a friend. May I?
Of course you may. Click this invite friends link, enter their email address and tailor your message. To say thanks for spreading the word, if your friend creates an account we'll give you 20 free song credits!
I want to share a playlist with my best friend's girl. How do you do it?
That's a bit naughty. But you can share playlists by clicking the Share button on the playlist screen - you'll find it just beneath the playlist title.
You can send with the text pre-loaded in the message box, or you can edit it to create your own message. Just be careful not to change any of the text in the playlist URL (e.g. http://home.luckyvoice.com/playlists/1389/sorry-i-stole-your-girlfriend/), or the link won't work when your friend tries to open it.
I want to share a song because I'm trying to teach the world to sing. How do you do it?
In the search results/playlist screen, click the song title. On the next screen, you'll see a Share button below the title. Edit your message (remembering not to change the song URL), enter your friend's email address and send!
My friend's playlist is simply the best. How do I let them know?
On a playlist's page, beneath its title, you'll see a button that looks like a heart. Click this to let your friend know you admire their playlist compiling skillz.
The first time you do this you'll earn 5 free song credits, and the first time one of your playlist gets some love you'll earn another 5 free song credits. Now that you've found love, what are you going to do with it?
You can also leave a comment at the bottom of a playlist's page if you want to let the creator know it makes you feel like dancing.
The fullscreen karaoke player
Word up! I spotted some lyrics that are wrong. How can I let you know?
In the karaoke player screen there will be a Problem with this song link. You can click that to notify us immediately without leaving the player, or if you want to leave more detailed information there's a form on our Feedback page - click here to be taken there right now (na na na).
I've got the karaoke player open. How do I play that funky music?
In the bottom right of the screen you'll see a panel where you can search for songs. When you find the song you want, you can add it to the Up Next playlist. Up Next is your live "live" song list, unless you open a pre-saved playlist (which you can do from the Playlists tab on the right of the Player panel).
Clicking the red + icon adds it to the bottom of the Up Next playlist; clicking the blue << icon adds it to the top of the Up Next playlist, which means it's the next song you'll sing. Clicking Next song button will play that song.
I want to add a pre-saved playlist to my Up Next list, but also add songs on the fly as I think of them. Is this an impossible dream?
In the panel within the player, go to Playlists and click Add all. This will add all these songs to Up next. You can then click the Search tab and add more songs to Up next as you think of them. Oh happy days!
I can see the words "Deducting credit in:" at the top of the player window. Are you trying to steal my sunshine?
This is just to let you know that once this countdown is over, you'll use up one of your song credits.
There are numbers floating all over the screen! Am I in some kind of purple haze??
The numbers you see are a countdown until the next batch of lyrics come in, so you can prepare your lucky voice accordingly.
The fullscreen karaoke player won't work! Can you start me up?
First, try clearing the cache on your internet browser. To do this, close the karaoke player window, and:
- In Internet Explorer: Go to Tools, then Internet Options. Depending on the version of Internet Explorer you are using, you then need to go to Browsing History or Temporary Internet Files. Click Delete Files (or just Delete, if that's an option). If you're asked what you want to delete, just select Delete Temporary Internet Files. After you've done this, refresh/reload the page and relaunch the karaoke player window by clicking one of the Sing! buttons.
- In Mozilla Firefox: Go to Tools, then Clear Recent History. Click Details, then ensure just Cache is selected. Click Clear Now. After you've done this, refresh/reload the page and relaunch the karaoke player window by clicking one of the Sing! buttons.
- In Google Chrome: Go to the Customise And Control Google Chrome button in the top right of your browser (it looks like a little spanner/wrench). Click Options, and go to the Personal Stuff tab. Under Browsing Data, click Clear Browising Data. After you've done this, refresh/reload the page and relaunch the karaoke player window by clicking one of the Sing! buttons.
If you're using a different browser just search for the appropriate term (for example, "clear cache Safari") in Google to learn how to clear your cache.
Still no joy? OK, please go through the following questions:
- Are you connected to broadband internet? The karaoke player may struggle with slow internet connections.
- Are you using the AOL browser? Sadly Lucky Voice Home (or more particularly the version of Flash we use) does not currently work with this browser. It’s fine though – you can use any one of a range of other browsers to get singing with, including Internet Explorer, FireFox, Safari or Chrome. They’re all free to download and install.
- Do you have Flash installed? Check this by going to the home page. If you don’t have Flash installed, rather than a purple window with white text, you will see a white box with a message directing you how to install it for free.
- Do you have Flash installed and you’re still seeing that message? Check that you have Javascript enabled on your browser. Do this by going to your browser’s security settings (often within the ‘Tools’ menu, under ‘Options’) and ensuring that ‘Active scripting’ is enabled.
- Do you see a message asking you to update your version of Flash? You need to have the latest version of Flash installed for Lucky Voice Home to work. Just follow all the instructions, including closing all browser windows when prompted.
- Still having problems? Contact us here, describing your problem in as much detail as possible and we’ll try to help.
Blocking songs with adult themes and lyrics
Blocking songs with adult themes and lyrics
We want to make Lucky Voice Home as child friendly as possible. You can now let your kids sing along to whatever songs they choose, taking comfort in knowing that they won’t be singing any naughty songs!
You can now block all songs with explicit lyrics. Obviously there are some songs without any explicit lyrics that are still a bit racy for the youngsters. You also have the option of blocking these songs too.
All you need to do is go to My Account when you have signed up, and tick one of the following options:
- Block adult song themes
- Block explicit lyrics
If you decide to block adult themes, the songs with explicit lyrics will automatically be blocked. If you are signed in and below the age of 16 then all these songs will be blocked automatically.
All songs that have adult themes will be marked with a !!! icon.
All songs that have explicit lyrics will be marked with a BLEEP icon.
Email notifications
These email notifications about song rewards - how do I stop your talk talk?
We send you emails to let you know how you can earn more song credits, or to let you know when your account may need topping up. We try not to send too many of these. But if you'd like to turn them off you can do so by going to My account and unchecking the Enable email notifications about rewards? box.
My account is also where to go if you wish to unsubscribe from our monthly newsletter (an act which, by the way, would be as heinous as disliking Bohemian Rhapsody).
Microphones and Party Boxes
Can I just plug a microphone into my computer?
For annoying and rather boring reasons to do with system drivers, amplifying your voice and the music is not as simple as plugging a mic into the microphone jack of your computer and then just connecting up some speakers. If you do this the sound of your voice will be delayed versus the sound of the music.
So how can you make it work? That's where the Lucky Voice Party Box comes in! The Party Box comes with an awesome pink microphone, mixer and leads - and allows you to mix the music with your voice and amplify the lot in time. You can find out more about the Party Box and buy one at the Lucky Voice Shop.
Wow, the Lucky Voice Party Box sounds like the world's greatest. Can I buy spare microphones, for hot duet action?
Why yes, you can! We offer spare pink, turquoise and gold (*gold!*) microphones. They come with leads which mean you can plug them straight into your existing Party Box mixer. Hurrah, two can play that game!
Buy spare microphones at Lucky Voice Shop.
