I need help with: My Lucky Voice Party Box

How do I connect up my Party Box?

Connecting your Party Box

Now breathe deeply – this isn’t as hard as all those cables make it look! We've recorded a 'how to' video - watch it here.

Or you can read the four simple steps below:

Step 1: Check you’ve got everything you need:

  1. A computer (PC or Mac) connected to the Lucky Voice website over broadband internet, and
  2. Some amplified speakers. This could be your hi-fi or an iPod dock with an ‘auxiliary input’ socket, or some computer speakers.

Step 2: Connect your Party Box mixer to your computer

  1. Find one of the two included ‘headphone to headphone’ cables - these are the ones with the same plugs at both ends.
  2. Plug one end into the Music in socket on the Party Box mixer and the other into the headphone socket of your computer.

Step 3: Connect your Party Box mixer to your amplified speakers

First question is: what speakers are you using?

  1. A hi-fi. Find the ‘auxiliary input’ socket of your hi-fi. On a hi-fi this will likely be on the back, have ‘phono’ (red and white) sockets, and be labelled AUX IN, DVD or DAT. People often use this socket to play their iPods through their hi-fis. Then find the included ‘phono to headphone’ cable, plug the end with the red and white plugs into the AUX IN, DVD or DAT socket of your hi-fi, and the other end into the ‘Audio out’ socket of the Party Box mixer. Finally, check that your hi-fi is on and set to play the right channel (e.g. AUX if you have connected your cable to the AUX socket etc).
  2. iPod dock. Find the ‘Music in’ socket on your iPod dock. This will often have a musical note symbol printed next to it. Then find the remaining included ‘headphone to headphone’ cable (it will have the same plug at both ends). Finally, if your iPod dock allows you to select channels, check it’s set to play ‘Music in’.
  3. Computer speakers. If these are the type of computer speakers with a built in cable that ends in a headphone plug, plug the end of this cable directly into the ‘Audio out’ socket of the Party Box mixer.

(Note that the Party Box will not work with USB-only computer speakers or some more complicated digital surround-sound computer sound systems. Please contact us if you have any questions.)

Step 4 : Final checks

  1. Connect the mic cable to the microphone, and plug the microphone into either the ‘Mic one’ or ‘Mic two’ socket on the front of the Party Box mixer.
  2. Check the Party Box mixer is connected to power and turned on (you will see a glowing pink/red light on the mixer if it’s powered up)
  3. Check that all volumes are turned up – on the mixer, your computer and on the amplified speakers.
  4. Check that the microphone is turned on.

That’s it – you’re ready to sing!

Still having problems? Take a look at the other help topics. If that doesn’t solve your problem then contact us. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

My microphone is faulty!

Faulty microphone

Okay first thing we need to check is that your mic is actually faulty (rather than it being due to some other problem). Please follow these two simple tests:

Test 1 : Check that the mic is set up properly

  1. Is your microphone switched on?
  2. Have you connected your microphone to the included mic cable?
  3. Is the other end of the mic cable connected to either the ‘Mic one’ or ‘Mic two’ socket on the Party Box mixer?

Still not working? Next try...

Test 2 : Check that everything else is set up properly

  1. Is the ‘Music in’ socket of the Party Box mixer be connected to your computer?
  2. Is the ‘Audio out’ socket of the Party Box connected to your amplified speakers (hi-fi, iPod dock or computer speakers?
  3. Is your Party Box mixer plugged into mains power and turned on (the red/pink light on the front should be lit up)? (If you think your mixer’s broken, check here)
  4. Are your amplified speakers (hi-fi, iPod dock or computer speakers) and computer are turned on?
  5. If you’re using a hi-fi or iPod dock is it set to the right input channel (e.g. AUX if you have connected your cable to the AUX socket)?
  6. Is the volume turned up on the Party Box mixer, your computer and speakers?

Not sure if everything is connected correctly? Go through the step-by-step set up guide under ‘Connecting your Party Box’

Or still having problems with your microphone? Take a look at the other help topics. If that doesn’t solve your problem then follow the instructions in 'Returning a faulty product'.

My Party Box mixer is faulty!

Faulty Party Box mixer

Oh dear. Well let’s double check that your mixer is faulty first of all. Follow these two simple tests:

Test 1 : Check the Party Box mixer is set up correctly

  7. Is the microphone connected to the mic cable, and the mic cable plugged into either the ‘Mic one’ or ‘Mic two’ sockets at the front of the Party Box mixer?
  8. Is the microphone turned on?

Not sure if everything is connected correctly? Go through the step-by-step set up guide under ‘Connecting my Party Box’

Or still having problems? If so, try...

Test 2 : Check that your computer and amplified speakers are working properly

Disconnect all cables except power from your computer. Log on to Lucky Voice Home, click ‘Sing now’ and start any karaoke song playing. Check that the audio is not muted and the volume turned up. You should hear music playing through the in-built speakers on your computer.

  • If you are having trouble getting the song to play on Lucky Voice Home then check the getting the karaoke songs to play section.
  • If you can see the lyrics appearing on your screen but no music playing you might have a problem with your computer. Please consult the manufacturer of your computer.

If your computer plays the song fine, then plug the cable running from the ‘auxiliary input’ socket of your amplified speakers directly into the headphone socket of your computer. Play a karaoke song on Lucky Voice Home on your computer, and the music should be amplified through your speakers.

  • If you don’t hear music it you may have a problem with your amplified speakers. Please consult the manufacturer of your amplified speakers. (Note that the Party Box will not work with USB-only computer speakers or some more complicated digital surround-sound computer sound systems. Please contact us if you have any questions.)

If the music from your computer does play through your amplified speakers then it sounds like you might have a problem with your Party Box mixer. Take a look at the other help topics. If that doesn’t solve your problem then read 'Returning faulty products'.

The fullscreen karaoke player won't work

The fullscreen karaoke player won't work! Can you start me up?

First, try clearing the cache on your internet browser. To do this, close the karaoke player window, and:

  • In Internet Explorer: Go to Tools, then Internet Options. Depending on the version of Internet Explorer you are using, you then need to go to Browsing History or Temporary Internet Files. Click Delete Files (or just Delete, if that's an option). If you're asked what you want to delete, just select Delete Temporary Internet Files. After you've done this, refresh/reload the page and relaunch the karaoke player window by clicking one of the Sing! buttons.

  • In Mozilla Firefox: Go to Tools, then Clear Recent History. Click Details, then ensure just Cache is selected. Click Clear Now. After you've done this, refresh/reload the page and relaunch the karaoke player window by clicking one of the Sing! buttons.

  • In Google Chrome: Go to the Customise And Control Google Chrome button in the top right of your browser (it looks like a little spanner/wrench). Click Options, and go to the Personal Stuff tab. Under Browsing Data, click Clear Browising Data. After you've done this, refresh/reload the page and relaunch the karaoke player window by clicking one of the Sing! buttons.

If you're using a different browser just search for the appropriate term (for example, "clear cache Safari") in Google to learn how to clear your cache.

Still no joy? OK, please go through the following questions:

  1. Are you connected to broadband internet? The karaoke player may struggle with slow internet connections.
  2. Are you using the AOL browser? Sadly Lucky Voice Home (or more particularly the version of Flash we use) does not currently work with this browser. It’s fine though – you can use any one of a range of other browsers to get singing with, including Internet Explorer, FireFox, Safari or Chrome. They’re all free to download and install.
  3. Do you have Flash installed? Check this by going to the home page. If you don’t have Flash installed, rather than a purple window with white text, you will see a white box with a message directing you how to install it for free.
  4. Do you have Flash installed and you’re still seeing that message? Check that you have Javascript enabled on your browser. Do this by going to your browser’s security settings (often within the ‘Tools’ menu, under ‘Options’) and ensuring that ‘Active scripting’ is enabled.
  5. Do you see a message asking you to update your version of Flash? You need to have the latest version of Flash installed for Lucky Voice Home to work. Just follow all the instructions, including closing all browser windows when prompted.
  6. Still having problems? Contact us here, describing your problem in as much detail as possible and we’ll try to help.
